Atletico Madrid are delighted after an agreement with Torino for Alessio Cerci was reached on Sunday.
Sporting director Jose Luis Perez Caminero revealed that the Italian international was one of the main targets during the summer transfer window.
"We are delighted to have sealed an agreement for Cerci," Perez Caminero told the club's official website.
"He was an objective to strengthen our squad ahead of all matches coming up this season."
Atletico Madrid sold a number of key players during the summer, including striker Diego Costa, with the club facing pressure to sign replacements.
"We were expected to make an effort after selling so many key players this summer," the sporting director said.
Meanwhile, Torino coach Giampiero Ventura explained that keeping the 27-year-old was always going to be difficult as the player wanted to enjoy Champions League football this season.
"It's fair for Cerci to play in the Champions League," Ventura told Italian public television company RAI.
"I am happy for him and I hope we sign someone to replace him, there are many players who could help us."
