Market transfer expert Duncan Castles believes Toby Alderweireld is on Manchester United's "recruitment list" but not a priority.
The Tottenham Hotspur defender could leave the club during the summer transfer window.
But Castles says the Red Devils may decide to make an offer for other players.
"Alderweirld's agent has been working hard to find him another club," he told the Transfer Window Podcast.
"He's on the recruitment list for Manchester United but I understand he's not top of that recruitment list at centre-back, partly because of the price, partly because of the wages involved.
"At present I think he's in quite a difficult situation because he doesn't have a firm offer from Manchester United and he's doesn't have a firm offer from anywhere else.
"From what I understand he's looking at the possibility he might have to stay at Tottenham for another season or accept lesser terms than he was expecting elsewhere.
"It's interesting to see if [Daniel] Levy will be prepared to compromise on price, or whether he feels it's a player who can be reintegrated into the team if they don't get the fee he wants."
