Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has rubbished reports that he signed goalkeeper Eduardo because reserve goalkeeper Asmir Begovic will leave the club.
The 33-year-old became Conte's third summer signing but will be the club's third goalkeeper and will take over from Jamal Blackman who is on loan at Wycombe Wanderers.
"The situation is very clear," Conte explained.
"We have three goalkeepers now: the first is Courtois, the second is Begovic, the third is Eduardo.
"We needed a third goalkeeper because [Jamal] Blackman went on loan. We are happy Eduardo is with us."
The Portuguese joined from Croatian club Dinamo Zagreb and is determined to play a part in the London club's quest to win the Premier League title.
"I respect all the choices but I would be saying it wrong if I wasn’t saying I will do my best to get my opportunity and fight every day for it," he said.
"That is the way we should be - have respect for everybody and fight for a place. That is what professionals do."
