John Terry: The reason why I decided to leave Chelsea after 18 years

By

Chelsea defender John Terry says the club's decision to move in a "different direction" is the reason why he will leave the club next summer.

The Englishman joined the Blues at the age of 14, becoming one of the most important players in the history of the club.

He confirmed that he will not join another Premier League club but wants to play professional football for at least two more seasons.

"Ideally I would have loved to stay, but the club's moving in a different direction," Terry is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"I couldn't play for another Premier League club. It will be elsewhere for sure.

"I feel as though I'm in great nick, I'm playing great and I've got a couple of years to go. It'll just be elsewhere.

"The club will move on. No player is ever bigger than the club. No doubt they'll sign one or two great centre-backs."
