Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho says Paris Saint-Germain were more aggressive than League Two side Shrewsbury Town in the first leg of their Champions League tie.
The Portuguese was answering questions regarding the host of fouls suffered by midfielder Eden Hazard at the Parc des Princes.
And he admits he was surprised by the high number of fouls committed by Laurent Blanc's men.
"I was surprised in that game [the first leg], I was surprised," Mourinho told reporters on Monday evening.
"Because a team with fantastic players was the team with the record of fouls, was the team that was making foul after foul, was the team that stopped [Eden] Hazard with fouls all the time.
"Was the team that was attacking the man in possession of the ball with two or three players and having some very aggressive actions.
"A team where even a player like Zlatan [Ibrahimovic], which is a typical attacking player, when the team lose the ball he was coming back to tackle Hazard from behind to stop a counter attack.
"So I have to be fair, I thought that an English team would never be surprised with aggressivity because we have it in our country.
"During this season we played against teams from the Championship in the cups, teams from League One in the cups, we played against a team from League Two, I think Shrewsbury [Town] was from League Two.
"But the most aggressive team was Paris Saint-Germain, so for me it was a real surprise because with players of such quality, I was expecting more football and less aggressivity.
"I'm not repeating [my message to referees], the referee is the referee, last time it was Mr. Cakir, tomorrow it's Mr. Kuipers and they are there to do their job and they do the best they can."
