Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos will undergo his Arsenal medical this week, Express Sport has revealed.
The Greece international will add depth to the Arsenal defence which will be without captain Laurent Koscielny for months.
Meanwhile, German journalist Raphael Honigstein believes the 29-year-old will bring very little to the Emirates.
"He's pretty decent, I don't think it's a player that is going to leave a huge void in Dortmund fans' affection," he said on the ESPN FC podcast.
"He's a warrior but not so great on the ball.
"By and large, he's not the kind of player that gets you excited.
"Very tidy, very energetic, tough in the tackle but I'm not sure he's going to take the Arsenal defence to the next level.
"It's a little bit underwhelming if you think that Sven Mislintat, the former Dortmund scout, was brought in to identify talent that everyone has overlooked.
"If you look at the signings so far, with the exception of [Konstantinos] Mavroponas, he's brought in two former Dortmund players.
"It's a little bit underwhelming from an Arsenal perspective."
