Milan coach Filippo Inzaghi says midfielder Keisuke Honda is not in the squad to face Sampdoria on Sunday.
The 28-year-old was also ruled out of the Palermo game with a foot injury but is expected to make his return in the squad against Internazionale on April 19.
"We know this one is a very important game for us," Inzaghi said on Saturday.
"All remaining games are crucial, we are aware of the fact that if we fail one game we will be criticised yet again. But we are fully focused and we hope to enjoy a positive game.
"I'm not really concerned about their [Sampdoria's] approach, I only hope we approach the game with an aggressive attitude. They possess important players up front.
"It has to be the same Milan as the one against Palermo [to win the game], we didn't deserve to concede the penalty [against Palermo] because we were not struggling at that stage of the game.
"[Marco] van Ginkel trained yesterday. I have to decide who will start [in midfield] between him, [Andrea] Poli and Jack [Giacomo Bonaventura].
"van Ginkel did exceptionally well in these last three games and Suso did well against Palermo when he came on. I'm yet to decide the starting line-up but I know I can rely on all players I have on the bench.
"Keisuke [Honda] did all he could to recover [from injury] but we opted not to take any risks so as to have him available for the derby [against Internazionale]."
