Internazionale coach Roberto Mancini says his side deserved to take all three points after registering another win in the dying minutes of the match.
New signing Stevan Jovetic was again the hero for the Nerazzurri as they registered their second consecutive win of the season.
They lead the table together with Chievo, Torino, Sassuolo and Palermo.
"There are 36 matches yet to play so I'm just happy to have won again," Mancini said.
"We had to dig in but we were expecting that. The team still needs to improve – we should have had the result sewn up but instead conceded an absurd goal. Carpi put in an excellent performance but we deserved the three points.
"We signed Jovetic to influence our play, provide assists and score goals. He has incredible technical ability and he's not at 100% yet.
"We are still short in some areas of the squad. We came here tonight with just two strikers and an 18-year-old kid. Eder is a Sampdoria player [and the exit of Hernanes is] news to me. He's a very important player for us. He always makes a difference and hasn't played much so far solely due to fitness issues."
