After less than two months at Southampton, Saphir Taider left the Saints to return to Italy to Sassuolo.
With the Premier League side making it clear that Dani Osvaldo's loan move to Internazionale will not be affected by the decision, the former Bologna midfielder was sent back after failing to impress manager Ronald Koeman.
The Dutchman explained that players have to work hard to secure a regular place in his line-up, something that the Algeria international failed to do during his short spell at the club.
"It was difficult for him, I cannot guarantee a regular place to all my players," the Dutchman is quoted as saying by fcinternews.it.
"We have many fixtures coming up and a lot of good players, it's up to the player to show that he deserves a place in the starting eleven.
"If one cannot accept this then everything will be more difficult."
