Italian Serie A side Internazionale have joined the race to sign central defender Emanuel Mammana.
On Tuesday, Italian TV channel SportItalia revealed that the Blues met with the player's agent to finalise the transfer.
But Inter's vice president Javier Zanetti told reporters the Italians will "fight hard and insist" to secure the services of the youngster.
When asked about his future the 20-year-old said: "I am only focused on River Plate at the moment.
"Of course I’d love to play abroad but the only thing I am thinking about right now is playing for River."
According to reports in England, the player is available for £8million.
