AC Milan sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli is convinced Marouane Fellaini will not extend his contract with Manchester United and will leave the club this summer.
The Rossoneri want to strengthen their squad to be competitive in the Serie A and Europa League next season.
The Belgium international will soon be a free agent and has been heavily linked with a move to Milan.
But Mirabelli says the 30-year-old is just one of the many options Milan have to strengthen the midfield.
"Fellaini could be an important player, he is," Mirabelli told Sky Sport Italia.
"We know he is not going to renew with United, but it's difficult to say that we have closed the deal.
"He has important attributes. We will do something in that role but we are keeping everything in reserve.
"First we have to secure our signings, then announce them."
