Arsenal will announce their second summer signing in the next 48 hours.
Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos will become new boss Unai Emery's second signing in less than a week.
The father of the player revealed that Manchester United were also interested but he decided to move to the Emirates even if the Gunners will not feature in next season's Champions League.
"There was interest from United. United had a very good relationship with Dortmund, the teams talked the most, but Socrates chose to go to Arsenal," father Charalambos told 24/7 radio.
"He is happy, he is in England at the moment, and tomorrow everything will be done, the formal, everything will go well, he is happy, he is changing, I think he is going to a higher level.
"English league is the highest in the world, the most competitive and I believe there will go well."
