Arsenal are close to signing centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund for a reported £16million, the BBC has claimed.
The 29-year-old will be Unai Emery's first signing since he took over from Arsene Wenger.
The Greece international is one of the most experienced defenders available on the market having played for AEK Athens, Genoa and Milan before moving to Germany.
He will add depth to an area left facing problems after the injury of captain Lauren Koscielny.
It is unclear when the Frenchman will be back after he underwent surgery on a ruptured Achilles tendon.
Other reports have claimed that Sokratis will be announced as an Arsenal player before the end of the week.
