Arsenal are on the verge of securing their first summer signing with a £17million move for the Borussia Dortmund and Greece defender Sokratis, Metro has revealed.
Arsenal's head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is already working hard to strengthen the squad ahead of next season.
And the defensive department is an area where the Gunners are eager to improve.
The news has been confirmed by Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol who claimed that Arsenal are very close to completing the transfer.
"The head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is very powerful even in the last window," Solhekol told the Transfer Talk podcast.
"He was the driving force behind the players they were signing.
"Arsenal are looking for a centre-half.
"They have been looking at the German market. Talks with Sokratis Papastathopoulos at Borussia Dortmund are very close [as a] centre-half is a priority."
