Serie A giants Inter Milan have opened talks with Arsenal star Shkodran Mustafi over a move to the San Siro, according to Metro.
The news comes as a shock to Arsenal fans especially since defender Gabriel Paulista has decided to return to the Spanish Liga.
The Germany international moved to the Emirates last summer but struggled in his first year at the club.
According to the article, manager Arsene Wenger has identified Rob Holding, Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny as his three regular centre-backs for the campaign.
The Frenchman has made it clear that he wants to trim his squad before the end of the summer transfer window.
With Paulista's departure, he now has 32 first-team players at his disposal.
Mustafi is in the squad to face Stoke City this weekend.
