Arsenal manager will sign a new contract but only after registering an important win in the Premier League, club legend Paul Merson said.
The Frenchman told reporters this week that he will be devoted to Arsenal for as long as he is manager but opted not to reveal his plans ahead of next season.
The Gunners were on the humiliating end of a 10-2 aggregate defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, the worst of any English side in the history of the competition.
"Arsene Wenger is becoming too arrogant for his own good," Merson told the Daily Star.
"Arsenal is a club with so many loyal supporters and he's just doing what he wants and keeping everybody in the dark about his future.
There's a real arrogance about that. It feels like he is just mugging everybody off. And then he says talks are on hold with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil because it might distract the team.
What about his own future? It's a bit hypocritical. It's not just Sanchez and Ozil anyway. The other players haven't shown any heart either. The last couple of performances have been bordering on pathetic.
Where was the heart against West Brom? Everybody knows the Baggies are great at set plays, and Arsenal go for zonal marking! It's unbelievable. I think Wenger is one result away from signing.
I think he's waiting for a big win so he can do it then. But it should have been decided by now. It's gone on too long and it's hurting the club."
