The Sun has reported that new Arsenal striker Lucas Perez was only approached by the club after attempts to sign Jamie Vardy, Alexandre Lacazette, Antoine Griezmann and Robert Lewandowski have failed.
The Gunners have made an official offer to sign the Leicester City striker but the Englishman decided to extend his contract with the Foxes.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas also confirmed that they offered €35million to secure the services of the 25-year-old Frenchman.
And according to the Sun, an approach to sign either Antoine Griezmann or Robert Lewandowski was made during the Euro 2016 Championship.
Manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed after the Watford game that both Perez and defender Shkodran Mustafi have passed their medical and will be officially announced at the start of next week.
Perez signs only days after the Frenchman suggested that Alexis Sanchez could become as good as Luis Suarez if deployed in a more offensive role.
