Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that defender Gabriel Paulista is in pain after suffering a late injury during his side's 3-2 win against Manchester City.
He joins Per Mertesacker on the sidelines who was ruled out for months undergoing knee surgery two weeks ago.
The German and Frenchman Laurent Koscielny will not feature against Liverpool later on this week and with Gabriel also set to miss this season's Premier League opener, Arsenal could face the Reds with Calum Chambers and Krystian Bielik in defence.
"He's in pain," Wenger told reporters.
"Let's hope that the pain is not a sign of bad news.
"Laurent [Koscielny] is back in training but Liverpool may come a bit soon.
"We're short in defence at the moment."
