Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was satisfied after his side's 1-1 draw against Lens on Friday.
It was the first pre-season friendly for the Gunners as they are still without Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey who are on extended holidays.
They play the MLS All-Stars next week before facing Chivas de Guadalajara and Viking FK in the first week of August.
"It's a good comeback," Wenger told reporters after the game.
"It was quite an intense game physically. They start their French championship next week and they were quite ready physically.
"We had to dig deep a little bit to come back but I think that overall it was a good workout for us to have as our first game. It was quite an intense one.
"The idea of pre-season is not to travel a lot but play football.
"We have gone into a different era. I managed to resist for a long time. I don't know if I've become weaker, but our sponsors have certainly become stronger over the years.
"The pressure on the club today with the sponsors travelling all over the world… We were the last to travel but in the end we did it as well."
