Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger to pay £40m to get deal done for European no.9

By

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has increased his bid for striker Alexandre Lacazette, the Telegraph has revealed.

The Frenchman is still searching for a new striker after failing in his attempts to sign Jamie Vardy from Leicester City and Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid.

Alexandre Lacazette, Gonzalo Higuain and Mauro Icardi are the three strikers currently being linked with a possible move to the Emirates.

Last week, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas insisted that the 25-year-old will not leave the club this summer and that Arsene Wenger made no contact to sign the player.

"I have seen Arsene a lot during the French national team matches and he did not speak to me about him," Aulas is quoted as saying by Get French Football News.

"So I do not think that there is anything there and it seems to me that Alex wants to spend this season with Lyon in the new stadium.

"He wants to have the Champions League adventure that could be much better than last season.

"I think that he will stay with us and we are very happy."
