Arsenal and Liverpool have made an official approach to sign Islam Slimani but his club Sporting Lisbon have rejected both offers, Express Sport has revealed.
The 26-year-old, together with Edinson Cavani and Christian Benteke, has been identified by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger as one of three strikers who could be signed if the Jamie Vardy deal collapses.
The striker enjoyed a phenomenal season in Portugal, scoring 31 goals in 46 appearances in all competitions.
Sporting Lisbon manager Jorge Jesus was full of praise for the Algerian as he declared that he would be perfect for the English Premier League.
"Vardy was this year's revelation, people say that Slimani wouldn't be able to play for Leicester, but I disagree," Jesus told GianlucaDiMarzio.com.
"In England if he is guided by a manager who knows a lot about football, he can score double the goals Vardy does."
