Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli says Arsenal made an offer for Internazionale striker Mauro Icardi but it was rejected by the Nerazzurri.
Giulianelli, who was convinced that Karim Benzema was going to join the Gunners at the start of the month, revealed that manager Arsene Wenger wanted to add the former Sampdoria man to his squad.
But Internazionale replied by saying that the 22-year-old is not for sale.
"What has gone on behind the scenes after Benzema deal went off: Arsenal showed interest in Mauro Icardi but Inter refused to sell him," Giulianelli wrote on Twitter.
"Wenger meeting with his team this evening to discuss how Arsenal are going to go about the last few days of the transfer window.
"Of course I meant Wenger and his staff. Arsene will have the final word on the possible arrivals."
