South American football expert Tim Vickery says Arsenal are chasing Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani.
The Gunners have turned their attention to the Uruguayan after missing out on primary target Karim Benzema who will stay at Real Madrid.
The 28-year-old is also a target for Manchester United although boss Louis van Gaal will be more than happy to keep deploying Wayne Rooney as central striker after Wednesday's hat-trick in the Champions League.
The former Napoli man has a market transfer value of £35m, a fee that both Premier League clubs are ready to meet.
"The angle the Uruguayan press are going with is that now with Benzema now not going to happen, Arsenal have set their sights on Cavani," Vickery told talkSPORT.
"He's a box to box centre-forward, his work rate is outstanding. He is quite happy to chase well back into his own half and he really does put in a shift.
"My doubt about him – and I've seen a lot of him from Uruguay under-20s – is that he never quite manages to score the goals that you think he should."
