Midfielder would have made a great Arsenal player, says coach

By

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew says former Arsenal target Yohan Cabaye would have been an excellent signing for the Gunners.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger made a bid of about £10m for the midfielder when he was at Newcastle United.

The offer was turned down and he went on to move to Paris Saint-Germain during the 2014 January transfer window.

And Pardew believes the 29-year-old is good enough to secure a regular place in Wenger's side.

"He would have made a great Arsenal player," he told reporters ahead of Sunday's game.

"But let's be honest, he has an abundance of talent in the midfield and I don't think that if Yo had gone at that time, whether he would have got into that Arsenal team, he would have had to fight.

"He's a fantastic player, we are honoured to have him and he is definitely the level of Arsenal players.

"I don't think Arsene Wenger or anyone at Arsenal would disagree with that.

"We have a player who could definitely play in their team and that is a nice feeling for us."
