Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says Danny Welbeck will continue to occupy a wide role as long as Olivier Giroud is in the team.
The 24-year-old was used in a more central position when the Frenchman was injured at the start of the season but was shifted out wide after the return of Giroud.
And Wenger is set to keep deploying the Englishman in this role.
"One of the reasons I bought him is that he can play central striker and wide," Wenger said after the 2-0 win against Middlesbrough.
"I believe he's doing extremely well and is contributing to the team very well.
"He can play central striker like he did for a long time but the most natural centre forward we have is Giroud. All the strikers we have can play in different positions.
"The only one who can only play centre forward is Giroud, so when Giroud plays the others have to move out wide."
Meanwhile, the Frenchman says midfielder Jack Wilshere is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a serious ankle ligament damage suffered last year.
"He's two weeks ahead of schedule," Wenger said.
"I had a hesitation to put him on the bench today but I thought I wanted him to have one more week of training at least."
