Coach Rudi Garcia admitted there's still room for improvement for Roma as they move on to the next round of the Italian Cup.
A below-par Giallorossi side had to work hard to battle past Empoli on Tuesday night and the Frenchman insists that there is still a lack of consistency in his team.
"What is important in the Italian Cup is to qualify and tonight we achieved our objective," Garcia said.
"The risk to concede on the counter is there when you have opportunities to score the second and you fail to take them.
"Empoli did well, they are very organised.
"Contrary to the Palermo game we scored straight away but I expected more consistency."
The Giallorossi move on to the next round after referee Marco Di Bello pointed to the spot in the 114th minute of the game, leaving the Empoli players baffled by the decision.
"I just saw the images," Garcia explained.
"It seems [Piotr] Zielinski collides with [Leandro] Paredes' feet though it's hard to understand if he touched the ball before or after contact was made.
"The referee was only a few metres away so we should give him the benefit of the doubt."
