Roma coach Rudi Garcia says his players will learn from their experience in the Champions League.
The Giallorossi crashed out of the competition after last night's 2-0 defeat at home against Manchester City but the Frenchman insists the objective of the club is to feature every season in Europe's most prestigious competition.
"It was a balanced game, we failed to take advantage of what we created in the first 15 minutes of the game," Garcia said.
"They were more clinical and more lucky. They hit the post and score, we hit the post and it goes wide.
"There's still a lot of work to be done to reach the same level of the giants in Europe. City didn't start the group well but they improved and showed their quality.
"It was the toughest group and to make things worse we were in the fourth pot but we have to take the positives from this experience, for the future, because we want to be in the Champions League every season.
"We will now focus on doing well in the Serie A and Europa League."
Midfielder Daniele De Rossi was an unused substitute for Roma and the Frenchman says the 31-year-old was not mentally ready to start the game.
"He had a complicated week," Garcia said.
"The best decision was to let him be. Had we kept the scoreline he would have featured but after they scored I had to use offensive players."
Asked if new players are needed to improve, Garcia said: "Our ambition is to improve.
"We have to build a strong team every season. The league has to give us the chance to play the Champions League next season and I have faith in the squad to do well this season."
