Roma coach Rudi Garcia was visibly pleased after the 1-1 draw away against Manchester City.
An early Sergio Aguero goal didn't demoralise the Giallorossi as they restored parity 20 minutes later with a brilliant Francesco Totti touch.
It was the 38-year-old's 290th goal for Roma as he becomes the oldest scorer in UEFA Champions League history.
"We played with personality", Garcia told reporters after the game.
"Let's not forget we were a goal down after a few minutes, but the players kept their focus, believing in our strength.
"We defended well, it was vital but we also created a number of goal-scoring opportunities. The captain's goal was beautiful, a point that can mean a lot.
"I am proud of my players, we probably had the best chances of the game.
"We did struggle in the last ten minutes but that was to be expected since we keep playing with the same defenders and midfielders.
"But I'm satisfied.
"I am happy for his [Totti's] goal, his talent made the difference in front of goal."
Brazilian Maicon failed to play the offside trap correctly in the early stages of the game, dragging striker Sergio Aguero back as the Argentinean raced into the area but recovered immediately from the mistake.
"We have to enjoy the Champions League," added Garcia.
"We fought hard last year and we have to take advantage. We are good enough to be in this group, there is talent and spirit and Maicon, in a way, was the image of our reaction.
"He [Ashley Cole] was brilliant, besides one game away from home he was always excellent [this season], and tonight he showed why he is such a great champion."
