Rafa Benitez angry with referee after Napoli defeat

By

Napoli coach Rafa Benitez pointed the finger at referee Massimiliano Irrati after his side's 1-0 defeat at Torino on Sunday.

The Spaniard was apparently upset that Torino striker Fabio Quagliarella was not sent on in the second half of the game and also after the referee waved play on after the ball hit the arm of Torino defender Emiliano Moretti.

It is not the first time a positive Napoli run of form comes to an abrupt end as the Partenopei fail to close the gap from Roma and Juventus.

"I'm bitterly disappointed, to lose like this hurts," Benitez said.

"I'm not satisfied with our first half performance, we improved in the second half but then we were penalised by certain episodes, of which I'm tired to talk about.

"I don't want to talk about what happened or referees, I will simply repeat that I liked the performance in the second half after struggling in the first.

"I also repeat that losing like this hurts, I am angry and I'd rather not say anything else. Tomorrow I will meet with the team so as to prepare the game against Lazio [in the Italian Cup].
