Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri says his side failed to take advantage of the numerical superiority as they were held to a 1-1 draw in Rome.
The Bianconeri produced a well-organised display in the first half against Rudi Garcia's Roma and deservedly took the lead through Carlos Tevez mid-way through the second half.
But they failed to take what would have been a very important win for the title race, keeping the lead at the top of the table to nine points.
"We played a very good game for 70 minutes," Allegri told reporters.
"We then struggled to cope with Roma's pressure and gave away 2-3 set-pieces. We failed to play football the moment they attacked us with no organisation.
"But we did well for 70 minutes, especially in the second half where we had other chances besides Tevez's goal.
"It's a shame not to win and open a 12-point gap, it means that we have to stay focused.
"Before the game I would have said that a draw would have been a good result but after the game I say it's a shame [that we didn't win].
"At the moment the table says that Juventus have a 9-point lead but Roma is a very good team and they showed their quality in the two games they played against us.
"Roma and Juventus are the best teams in the championship."
