Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino was delighted after his side battled past Qarabag FK on Thursday night.
Spurs were behind in the early stages of the game but took full advantage of defensive mistakes by the Azerbaijani champions to first restore parity and then take the lead.
Erik Lamela's late goal made sure of all three points, much to the delight of the Argentinean.
"I'm happy with the character of the team, happy with Erik who scored as well and happy with the performance," Pochettino said.
"Qarabag are a good team, they played well and it wasn't an easy game.
"It was also difficult after we conceded the penalty in the first few minutes but I'm very pleased with the players because we showed character, personality and played well in a difficult period.
"It wasn't easy but the answer was perfect for the team and in the end we fully deserved the result.
"We're a young team, a young squad and there were debuts for a lot of players, so we can look back and take a lot of positives.
"Now we need to prepare for Palace, try to perform well again and try to win on Sunday."
