Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino says his side deserved more than just a draw against Fiorentina on Thursday night.
Roberto Soldado's early goal was the perfect start for the hosts against Vincenzo Montella's men but Jose Maria Basanta restored parity late in the first half to give the Viola an important psychological advantage ahead of the second leg.
At home, Fiorentina are considered to be amongst the most dangerous in the Serie A with Roma and Juventus both failing to secure wins at the Stadio Artemio Franchi this season.
"I thought we deserved more," Pochettino said after the game.
"In the first half we created a lot of chances. It's a bit of a shame and I'm disappointed with result after 45 minutes because we dominated the game.
"In the second half we continued working hard. I'm happy with the performance but disappointed with the result because I thought we deserved more.
"This is football. I thought we were better than Fiorentina but this is a good thing and we now need to go to Florence and try to win the game.
"I'm sure it will be another open match. We need to believe in our possibility of going through to the next round and prepare for next Thursday but now we need to focus on West Ham on Sunday."
