Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has joined manager Jose Mourinho in confirming that striker Alvaro Morata was very close to joining the club.
The Spaniard was full of praise for his friend as he declared that he was looking forward to playing with the 24-year-old.
Real Madrid's financial expectations saw the Red Devils pull out of negotiations and sign Romelu Lukaku instead.
"I even started to think I'd be playing with Morata," Herrera told As.
"He was really close to signing.
"It's a shame he's not with us but he's a top striker and will do well wherever he plays."
