Manchester United will officially announce the signing of Henrikh Mkhitaryan this week, the Manchester Evening News has revealed.
Borussia Dortmund confirmed on their official website that the 27-year-old will leave the club to move to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are expected to finalise paperwork and apply for a work permit later on this week.
Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke confirmed that they decided to sell the Armenian so as not to lose him for free next summer.
"The decision to go ahead with this transfer was a very difficult one due to the unique negotiating position we found ourselves in: Manchester had made us an exceptionally generous offer," he said.
"If we had not taken them up on it, then the player would have gone a year later in 2017 on a free transfer.
"And we would have only delayed answering the question over the player by one year.
