Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho considers Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez his number one priority in this summer's transfer window, Calciomercato.com has revealed.
Despite signing a new contract with the Spanish giants, the 21-year-old could leave if his buy-out clause of £54million is met.
He enjoyed an impressive campaign for Los Colchoneros but was left out by head coach Vicente Del Bosque from the final 23-man squad for the Euro 2016 Championship.
After extending his contract last month, the Spaniard said: "I am very happy to be able to keep representing this jersey."
Atletico sporting director Jose Luis Perez Caminero added: "We are all very happy with the agreement reached with Saul.
"He is an excellent footballer, who learned his trade in our academy, and this reinforces our commitment to players formed in-house.
"He is in great form at the moment, but can improve still more as he has enormous potential."
