Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin says he signed a new contract with the club to show his gratitude to the directors and fans.
The Spanish giants rejected an offer for the player at the start of the month with reports claiming that Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City were all interested in signing the 29-year-old.
He agreed a new four-year deal last week to put an end to speculation over his future.
"I am very happy to have renewed with Atletico," he told reporters.
"I want to thank the club, my teammates and the coaching staff
"I have taken a decision with the heart, for the love that the people give me every day.
"The club has made a great effort for me to stay here. I always wanted to stay at this club. I am in the prime of my career."
