Manchester United are hoping to beat rivals Chelsea to the signing of Everton defender John Stones by offering Toffees target Jonny Evans in a player-plus-cash move for the young centre-back, Metro has revealed.
Roberto Martinez told reporters on Thursday morning that the defender will not be sold but the youngster continues to be a target for both Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal.
The Blues have made two official offers for the Englishman so far, both of which were rejected by the Toffees.
They are expected to return with a third bid in the region of £30m but they will face competition from the Red Devils who are eager to strengthen their defensive department with the signing of the 21-year-old.
