Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal says he will use Saturday's friendly match against Barcelona to properly assess the fitness level of his players ahead of the August 8 Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Red Devils defeated Club America and San Jose Earthquakes in their first two opening games of their Tour 2015 campaign but will face tougher opposition when they take on the Liga champions on Saturday.
And van Gaal says his players have to improve on every level ahead of next month's Premier League debut.
"We have to improve our shape and, of course, our level," van Gaal told MUTV.
"We have different organisations, so we have to play with different organisations.
"Also, we have to improve every level that we have, in all the positions. And, of course, I have to select now already for the third match against Barcelona.
"Now 11 players can play 60 minutes and that’s a big difference, so the next match I will show already what I find from the first two matches because the players have to prove their level on the pitch."
