Manchester United have reached a verbal agreement with Benfica for Nicolas Gaitan, but only if Angel Di Maria leaves Old Trafford this summer, Goal.com reports.
Reports that the Red Devils reached an agreement to sign the 27-year-old emerged early last month.
And agent Cassiano Pereira confirmed that the two clubs are negotiating the transfer of the Argentine midfielder, who is also a target for Jose Mourinho's Chelsea.
"Benfica and Manchester United are in negotiations over Gaitan and one offer includes Rafael to join Benfica," he told Record.
"Rafael wants to join Benfica. It's a big European club. If the talks proceed, it will not be difficult to reach an agreement."
