Arsenal have been linked with a move for Manchester United winger Angel di Maria, with Arsene Wenger having tried to land the Argentina international on two previous occasions, the Telegraph revealed.
A target also for Paris Saint-Germain, the Argentina international struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford last season.
The French giants are ready to offer more than £40m to secure the services of the 27-year-old who is unlikely to leave the club this summer.
At the end of last month, he in fact made it clear that he wants to fight for a regular place in Louis van Gaal's squad this season.
"Has it been tough? Yes. For me, and my family," Di Maria told Argentinian newspaper Ole.
"Because not everything goes as I want, because I don't play.
"Because I came with an intention and end up on the bench. It's hard to tell how I feel there.
"I started well, with goals and assists. I was having a good time, until I was out.
"It's a little hard to explain why I do not play.
"Do I want to leave? No, because I'm not thinking like that. In Madrid there were times when I was whistled around the stadium but faced it and then it turned around.
"I like to deal with things."
