Manchester United want to sign Ricardo Rodriguez from Wolfsburg, according to the Daily Star.
The Red Devils will face competition from Real Madrid for the 22-year-old.
The Spaniards have to deal with the uncertain future of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale but in the meantime they have made the Wolfsburg man their main priority to strengthen the defensive department.
Rodriguez joined the German side in the summer of 2012 and is available for £25m.
With 14 goals scored in three years at Wolfsburg, the Switzerland international would also be an asset when on the attack as he would take over from Fabio Coentrao who is expected to leave last year's Champions League winners during the summer.
Serie A side Internazionale are also set to make an approach for the player after he impressed the Italians when the two teams faced in the Europa League.
