Bayern Munich striker Thomas Muller turned down an "astronomical offer" from Manchester United to stay with the reigning German champions.
The Red Devils have been one of the most active clubs during the summer transfer window and are rumoured to be ready to sign more top players before the end of the market.
And according to Muller, he was one of the players on Louis van Gaal's shortlist.
"Yes, Manchester United were close to signing me," Muller is quoted as saying by Bild.
"I could earn more by moving, the figures that foreign clubs were talking about for me were astronomical."
Having won almost all there was to win in the last few seasons, the 24-year-old is convinced Bayern Munich is still the right club at this stage of his career.
"But I can only say that Bayern Munich is my club and a change was never really an issue for me."
