Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany has avoided serious injury after undergoing scans on a suspected calf problem.
The Citizens were anxiously awaiting news after the defender had to sit out Wednesday's training session for his national team but scans revealed the problem is not as serious as initially feared.
"He suffered a calf injury here in Belgium yesterday," reporter Gary Cotterill told Sky Sports News HQ.
"In fact during training he was fine, it was only in the evening he felt his calf and they took him for a scan today as a precaution.
"It's his left calf but it's only what they call a contraction of the muscle so it's not torn, it's not strained, it's a very, very slight contraction of the muscle.
"In fact, he may well even play tomorrow night for Belgium.
"He's going to warm-up before that game in Liege and decide himself whether he feels or not he can play or whether or not he is going to sit it out."
Manchester City face a difficult away trip to Arsenal when the Premier League resumes after the international break and the central defender will be available to manager Manuel Pellegrini.
"But there is certainly no threat to his returning for Manchester City. So good news - Vincent Kompany is OK for Manchester City," Cotterill added.
