Liverpool will offer Rickie Lambert in their attempt to sign Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, according to Mirror.
The Reds struggled for form in the offensive department after selling Luis Suarez to Barcelona last summer with Italy's Mario Balotelli struggling to settle down on his return to the English Premier League.
Benteke, 24, scored 16 goals in all competitions this season, helping Aston Villa to avoid relegation.
He is also one of the key players who helped Villa reach the FA Cup final, scoring two goals in four games.
Liverpool have failed to qualify for next season's Champions League and are desperate for reinforcements with boss Brendan Rodgers saying he knows exactly what needs to be done during the summer transfer window.
"It was always going to be a big job in the summer and today's result would certainly ratify that," he said on Sunday.
"We understand the job ahead and we will be much better than today going forward.
"We have got to be much better than we have been for the last six or eight weeks. We will work tirelessly to look to put on a better show next season."
