Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was impressed with full-backs Alberto Moreno and Javi Manquillo during Sunday's win against Tottenham Hotspur.
Moreno joined the Reds from Sevilla during the summer transfer window and although he was disappointing against Manchester City he bounced back in style scoring Liverpool's third against Spurs.
"When you consider that [Moreno] hadn't trained all week, it was a an excellent performance," the manager said after the game.
"What was most pleasing was the way his goal came. That's why you work with young players and coach them to see if they learn.
"He should have got tighter to [Jesus] Navas for Manchester City's third goal on Monday. We spoke about that, and how our philosophy is to press and to get tight.
Also caught napping by Stevan Jovetic for Manchester City's first goal at the City of Manchester Stadium, the 22-year-old was quick to understand his mistakes after a chat with the manager.
"He learnt from that," added Rodgers. "That's what you look for in players.
"Today, the ball goes to Andros Townsend, who is quick as well, and he goes, presses him tight, nicks the ball and then he's away. The speed that he showed was phenomenal, and it was a great finish.
"That's what I ask of my full-backs; defend first and foremost, and then go and join in the attack. He was excellent, as was Javi Manquillo on the other side."
