Fabio Borini's agent Marco De Marchi rubbished rumours linking his client to a possible move to Napoli, in Italy.
After an excellent season with Sunderland, the striker returned to Liverpool but is expected to again struggle to secure a regular place with the Reds after the arrival of Mario Balotelli joining from Milan.
But, De Marchi revealed that the youngster might decide to stay as he is determined to work hard so as to be considered by manager Brendan Rodgers.
"Fabio Borini as Higuain's backup? I'm used to focus on concrete things and I must say these are only rumours at the moment," the agent is quoted as saying by TuttoMercatoWeb.com.
"The player is happy, available for Liverpool and even if there are many players in attack, he will fight to play."
After a positive spell with Roma, the striker struggled to impress at Liverpool but was a pivotal member of Sunderland's side that completed a miracle escape from relegation last season.
The Black Cats approached Liverpool to make Borini's move a permanent one and negotiations are ongoing.
"No Italian club approached me but twenty days ago Sunderland made an important offer to Liverpool.
"He still has two years of contract with Liverpool so we're not concerned over the future and the player is calm."
Napoli have been strongly linked with a possible move for the 23-year-old but his agent revealed no contact was made by Rafa Benitez's side.
"If he fancies a move to Napoli? I don't work with the "ifs" and "buts". I can say Napoli is a great venue but I never spoke with Fabio about it because they never called me.
"If they make an approach? I listen to all offers, it's my job, but it doesn't mean I accept all offers."
