Bayern Munich executive board chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed that the signing of James Rodriguez was manager Carlo Ancelotti's wish.
The former Real Madrid striker joined the German giants on loan for two years with Bayern having an option to buy at the end of the loan period.
Chelsea and Manchester United were also linked with the Colombia international.
But he decided to join the Bundesliga champions hoping to enjoy regular first-team football ahead of the 2018 World Cup Finals in Russia.
"We're very happy about this transfer," Rummenigge told the Bundesliga official website.
"James Rodriguez was Carlo Ancelotti's wish after both worked successfully together in Madrid.
"James is a versatile player, dangerous in front of goal, creates plenty and takes a good set-piece. We've really added to the quality of the squad with this transfer."
