Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has again confirmed that he wants to sign a defender before the end of the transfer window.
The Blues had to work hard to battle past Watford on Saturday afternoon.
The Italian defended striker Diego Costa after reports claimed that he should have been sent off and praised midfielder Cesc Fabregas for his brilliant pass for the Brazilian-born striker.
And he made it clear that he wants to sign a player who will improve his defensive department before deadline day.
"I'm pleased for the substitutes that came off the bench," he told BBC Sport.
"They showed great attitude and commitment with Cesc Fabregas and Michy Batshuayi making a real impact.
"We all know Cesc's quality, he's a great player but it's important to understand that we are at the beginning of the season and I am looking for the right balance."
"I don't accept this [asking for Diego Costa to be sent off] because if every game people find something on Diego it is no good for Chelsea.
"It's better to focus on the game. For me, the first yellow is no good for me. I don't accept the idea for a second yellow card for a dive but he does have to avoid the first.
"I'm in contact with my club every day and we talk to try and find a solution to buy the players that can improve this team.
"With the defenders we have we have a few players but it's important to understand that I don't just buy to buy – they need to improve my team."
