Chelsea have made contact with Real Madrid to understand if they would be ready to sell striker James Rodriguez in exchange for midfielder Cesc Fabregas and cash.
Calciomercato.it has also claimed that the Colombia international is one of the top targets for Serie A champions Juventus.
The future of the former Arsenal captain remains uncertain especially after he was omitted from Antonio Conte's starting eleven for Monday's game against West Ham United.
When asked specifically about the transfer, Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane made it clear that he already has enough players in midfield.
"If you want to put another central midfielder into the mix then it becomes complicated," Zidane told reporters on Tuesday.
"Cesc [Fabregas] is a great player but it is not very straightforward.
"I am going to end up with a squad where three or four players do not get selected.
"To therefore put another player in there makes it difficult."
