Club makes announcement after Chelsea make £39m transfer bid to sign international midfielder

By

Sporting Lisbon communications director Nuno Saraiva has rubbished rumours linking midfielder Joao Mario with a possible move to Internazionale or Chelsea.

Reports from Italy have claimed that the 23-year-old will sign for the Nerazzurri next week.

Other reports have claimed that Chelsea are strong favourites to sign him after offering £39million to secure his services.

But Saraiva says the youngster has no reason to leave the club this summer.

"Joao Mario is a Sporting player!" Saraiva is quoted as saying by Express Sport.

"Today he trained as normal and tomorrow he'll be available against Maritimo for the first game in a League season which we start with the maximum ambition.

"It makes no sense to try and guess the future, the president [Bruno de Carvalho] is sure of that and he'll be the only one who decides how it ends."
